Blockchain is an open distributed ledger technologythat enables ledger-maintainers on a network to collaborativelysynchronize and update their own distributed copies of a singleglobal ledger, with the goal of keeping the ledger copiesconsistent. This paper presents a theoretical control-model formulationof the founding Satoshi Nakamoto blockchain, aimedat enhancing our operational understanding and development ofblockchain systems. The control model is generic of every honestledger-maintainer’s local operations on a blockchain network.The presented research is a logical systematization of operationalknowledge that is understandable and explainable for blockchainsystem engineering and research. Using a software tool supportinga supervisory control theory applied in the formulation, thecontrol model is synthesized and logically validated.
