Internet of Things has been widely applied in everydaylife, ranging from transportation and healthcare to smarthomes. As most IoT devices carry constrained resources andlimited storage capacity, sensing data need to be transmitted toand stored at resource-rich platforms, such as a cloud. IoT applicationsneed to retrieve sensing data from the cloud for analysisand decision-making purposes. Ensuring the authenticity andintegrity of the sensing data is essential for the correctness andsafety of IoT applications. We summarize the new challenges ofthe IoT data communication with authenticity and integrity andargue that existing solutions cannot be easily adopted to resourceconstraintIoT devices. We present two solutions called dynamictree chaining and geometric star chaining that provide efficientand secure communication for the Internet of Things. Extensivesimulations and prototype emulation experiments driven by realIoT data show that the proposed system is more efficient thanalternative solutions in terms of time and space.
