In this paper, we evaluate the use of blockchainsas a resource to overcome such challenges. We start with aconceptual model for implementing measuring instruments in adistributed blockchain-based architecture and compare it withtraditional measuring instruments and distributed measuringmodels discussed in previous works. We also made a securityanalysis, demonstrating that blockchain-based measuring systemscan impact the way measuring instruments are used inconsumer relations while improving security and simplifyingmetrological regulation and control. We implement a vehiclespeed measuring system using the Hyperledger Fabric blockchainplatform. We evaluate the security and performance of ourblockchain-based measuring system by executing tests with datafrom real speed meter sensors. The results are promising andvalidate the feasibility of our idea. Finally, we point out themain challenges related to our approach, suggesting alternativesand potential issues to be addressed by future works.
