IEEE Project Abstract

IT could well be argued that the emerging internet ofthings (IoT), together with the two long-standing trendsof pervasive and ubiquitous computing, constitutes one ofthe most massive civil endeavors in the history of mankind.While it promises outstandingly positive usabilityand convenience effects, its implications for security andprivacy are less clear. The vision of billions of low-cost,lightweight, and highly interconnected endpoints certainlyrises a host of pressing issues to both cryptographersand system designers. Ideally, these should beresolved prior to a large-scale deployment of the IoT, andbefore its underlying infrastructure and standards havebeen established.
